The purpose of this study is to develop measures for reducing the congestion level of Tongil-ro. In order to identify the cause of traffic congestion, we carried out the field survey. Traffic volume, traffic facilities and traffic operation status were investigated and used as analysis data of T7F and VISSIM. A survey on the status of city bus operations, which has a great effect on traffic congestion, was also conducted.
The causes of traffic congestion at intersections were found to be inadequate location of bus stop, poor geometry of intersections, and unreasonable traffic signal operations. In response to these problems, this study suggested the intersection geometry adjustment, adjustment of traffic signal operation and shortening of cycle length, adjustment of pedestrian crossing position, relocation of bus stop and installing of bus bay.
It is analyzed that the congestion level of the intersection will be greatly lowered when the proposed improvement alternatives are implemented.
