My researches on the Protestant Reformation of 16<SUP>th</SUP> century consist of three parts: History, Invention and Fidelity. In the first part, I concentrated the European religious renaissance on the year of 1525 and of 1541, because these years show us the frame of all the reformation movements in the synchronic and diachronic way. The year of 1525 means the crucial separation between Erasmus and Luther, between Luther and the Radicals. The year of 1541 means the reappearance of the well-prepared and mature Calvin.
In the second part, by the word of Invention, I presented the Genevan model of Calvin which would be revolutionary in comparison with the Catholic model of the Middle Age, but anachronous(especially in the case of the religious tolerance) in the modern viewpoint of our times. We can explain like this all the expansion-history of the Protestant Churches that might be characterized by the immigration of the European white people into the new worlds.
Invention bears the problem of Fidelity. The Western Calvinism has produced so many conflicts between Invention and Fidelity. What would be the real Fidelity on Reformed theology? In this third part, I thought of the Korean imitatio Calvini which should be quite different from the Western way, not methodologically but materially. It’s because Korean Reformed theology could be and must be made out of our own traditional wisdom which might substitute the Western Hellenism.
