Sang-sup Yeom showed an unusual interest in the problem of mixed blood among his contemporaries from his <Mansejeon> to <Son of liberation>. Previous researches have regarded mostly that the mixed blood in these works were trying to overcome the crisis of national identity that they themselves were suffering by resisting the Japanese Empire. However, it seems to be difficult to apply this indication to the majority of Sang-sup Yeom’s novels dealing with mixed blood even though there exist some works which can accommodate such pointing out. It is because the aspect and meaning of mixed blood which were shown inside the works have been changing over time despite that those works had the same subject matter of mixed blood. This study sought to investigate how the changes in the aspect and meaning of mixed blood have been occurring under the assumption that the gravity and the aspect of mixed blood were different in each work and thus this difference led to the changes in meanings of each work. In Sang-sup Yeom’s novels, another marginal people, i.e. the "socially" mixed blood often appeared along with the marginal people of mixed blood. The consciousness of marginal people that they could not help but bear was not separable from ethnicity in nature, but the ethnicity was not at the level of grand discussion but at the level of everyday lives of individuals. Even the consciousness of marginal people in that sense was fading away and eventually destroyed in a series of his works. In summary, the lives of mixed blood in Sang-sup Yeom’s novels were nearly associated with ethnicity, but were far from grand discussion, and were merely at the level of the everyday lives of individuals, and further they even either disappeared or flew into the logic of excuse in a series of his works. Given this point, the existing evaluation that Sang-sup Yeom explored the issue of ethnicity through mixed blood will be hardly convincing.
