For the further development of the academic field, it will be needless to say that ensuring the important books and resources is critical. Chongshin University & Seminary which is striving to safeguard and to develop the Historic Reformed theology also has been trying to equip an academically excellent library. Especially our University made remarkable achievement in the Summer of 2015 by purchasing the remained bibliotheca (over 1,200 books) of Professor Willem van Nijenhuis(19162014), who is an internationally renowned Calvin scholar. That collection is housed in RTRC(Reformed Theology Research Center) attached to Chongshin Theological Seminary. I write this paper to clarify some key characteristics of these bibliotheca and to give information both internally and externally.
In second section, I examined about the life and public activities of Nijenhuis. Knowing where his academic interests laid mainly helps us to define the characteristics of the collection that he left behind. Nijenhuis was a Dutch church historian who obtained a doctorate in the research on Calvin. In his later life, he paid a lot of attention to the relationship between the Church of England and the Dutch church in the 16th and 17th centuries.
As introduced in third section, his theological concerns are reflected in the bibliotheca that he left behind. This collection of over 1,200 books comprises the complete works of Reformers (especially Corpus Reformatorum) and numerous monographs on the Reformation and Reformers. In addition, his remained library is including a lot of original works of the British and Scottish theologians and the source books regarding the church history of England and Scotland. Finally it includes several journals of church history and the encyclopedia just as TRE. Above all, the purchase of the original edition of Calvini Opera published in the late 19th century would have a value that cannot be converted by mere numbers.
