This paper explores the nonferrous metals futures markets in Chinese in respect to the price discovery dynamics among cooper, aluminum, zinc, and lead market. The analysis employs the vector-autoregression, granger causality, impulse response function and variance decomposition using daily returns on chinese nonferrous metals futures markets.
The findings in this paper indicate that cooper futures return has predictive power for zinc, aluminum, and lead futures return from Granger causality test. Both zinc and lead futures return have predictive aluminum futures return. The impulse reponses show that the one unit of shock of cooper futures return effects both zinc and lead futures return for two days positively. However, the one unit of shock of lead futures return doesn’t effects aluminum futures return. The results of variance decomposition show that the greater part change of zinc, aluminum, and lead futures return due to change of cooper futures return. The overall results suggest that cooper, zinc, and lead futures have price discovery but aluminum futures seems to make little in price discovery.
