From the 19th century, the survival aspect of Catholic potters is that of typical minority throughly excluded from ordinary society, owing to the national persecution. They always wandered for avoiding the surveillance of persecutors and of securing the clay, firewood, water necessary for pottery work, and yet they have been the lives of equal distribution based on perfect cooperation. After the opening of port, they have usually conflicted with the Cheondoism believers, the army of volunteers and pro-Japanese groups etc. And by the experience of colliding, the most part of them gave up their roaming in mountain and went to the region of plain, consequently they were absorbed into the ordinary society. But in spite of various oppressions of Japanese imperialism by laws and ordinances, and being pushed to the back street of industrialization after liberation, the small part of the Catholic potters have been maintained their hermit and wandering life. They have overcome all of the difficulties, relying on their pride of inheriting the family tradition. This these is mainly depended on the data from the 19th centuries to the earler 20th centuries, and consequently it is not able to fully explain the aspect of the life and survival of Catholic potters after the mid age of 20th centuries. In this these, I described the abstract of it, and later on, I will treat it officially.
