The purpose of this study is to analyze the performance of Korean education by field of study over the past ten years and assess the latest trend of Korean education and research to explore the future direction. In particular, research focus has been made on chronological and thematic analyses.
According to previous studies, it is noticeable that there have been improvement in research quality in terms of the contents of the research, not to mention growth made in terms of quantity in various areas. Moreover, a shift has been found from introductory research into more in-depth and empirical research.
The latest trend of research can be divided into several types : First, research that follows the theory of foreign scholars and applies them to local data. Second, empirical research using a teacher's actual classroom experiences or a questionnaire, or language materials. Third, research exploring alternative research method based on critical review of the existing research.
In line with a increasing number of research in field of Korean education, there is growing interest in acquiring original research methods for Korean education, which can be distinguished from other related areas. Pursuing diversity and uniqueness in research types is expected to contribute to development of Korean education in a very positive way.
