There are a lot of factors which have an important effect upon Korea-Japan Relations. There are classified into two groups, structural factors and situational factors. Considering Korea-Japan Relations in the World War Ⅱ, we can find that structural environment in which both nations are placed substantially have had an important effect upon relationship between Korea and Japan.
During the Cold War era, the external frame called Cold War System had played an important role to control the trouble between Korea and Japan as a string tie both nations. In that process, U.S. had played an important role as an arbitrator.
To see from this meaning, we can see that the collapse of Cold War System have had an important effect on Korea-Japan relations and provided momentum for building up a new relationship between Korea-Japan.
This thesis, in the respect of this point of view, analyze the character of relations of Korea-Japan in the 1990s centering on the influences of the changes of structural factors in the Post Cold War Era. The characters are summarized that ① Weakening of centripetal force of Korea-Japan relations ② A growing tendency of realistic foreign policy in both nations, ③ Strengthening of nationalism and a tendency of talking a serious view of domestic policies, ④ Increasing of the influences of public opinion and civil society. In conclusion, I presented the problems to solve hereafter.
