This paper is focused on rhetoric analysis about Park Jiwon's prose writing. His prose is famous for a flowery style and it's very unique on those days. I analyzed such an appearance with 「Balseongamgi(髮僧菴記)」 as the central figure I brought some rhetoric theory which are using on classical Chinese writings to prove it.
From the beginning, Park jiwon provided limited informations relating the title and the character. With the progressing, he augmented informations about them. Such a rhetoric way stimulate readers' curiosity, like a mystery novel. It's very effective to make readers remind a main character.
Also he didn't adhere the point of view as the third person. He mare himself into the story to contact with the main character Kim Hongyeon(金弘淵), and revealed Kim's real shape by bits. It made Kim -who were wrapped in mystery- in actuality.
The main purpose of 「Balseongamgi(髮僧菴記)」 is a caution about Kim's deep attachment on a false reputation, Also he made an additional remark to readers. Readers must not judge or ignore Kim by the reason of Kim's fantasticality and being unusual. He asserted Kim's life was valuable as his own way.
Sending Those two messages were Park jiwon's important goal. For that purpose, he transformed established literary style and used such rhetoric ways freely.
