Traditionalism in Korean modem literature is a literary trend in which recognizes the continuity of literary history and the autonomy of literature and succeeds to traditional aesthetics. The characteristics of the rhetoric of traditionalist poetry have three aspects; the rhetoric of temporality, the rhetoric of magic, the rhetoric of musicality.
First, the rhetoric of temporality is allusion. Allusion is the result of traditionalism and the result of times in which attaches too much importance to tradition. The poetic image in the rhetoric of temporality is not a natural image but an emblem in traditional symbolic system
Second, the rhetoric of magic comes from the autonomy of literature. In Korean literature, the autonomy of literature always was related to lyricalness or lyricism The magic is another names of the lyrical identification. Magical or mystical thoughts is found in Sea Jeong-joo's favorite tenn, ‘Silla-spirit(신라정신)’,. Essentially, the rhetoric of magic and metaphor are one and the same term.
Third, the rhetoric of musicality is repetition. Repetition is a main figure in a folk ballad and modem Korean ballad-poetry(민요시). It is closely connected with the sense of balance and the lyrical identification. Repetition has a essential characteristic in several figures as antithesis, contrast etc.
