A suitable database must be prepared in order to produce an Internet Dictionary Service.
I suggest these guidelines with the experience of constructing various of Internet Dictionary Services in Korea.
1. Entries organized as Main Entry, Guide Word and Parent-Child Relation.
2. Strictly divide Synonym and See Also.
3. Do not abuse Abbreviations, e.g., [vt.] for a transitive verb.
4. Include Real Media Audio pronunciation files in Pronunciation area.
5. Make literary and spoken versions of examples.
6. Make different input systems for Hangeul only or with Latin characters only.
7. Make a database of illustrations and pictures for searching and re-use.
8. Minimize the number of database fields.
9. Store field nesting depth in the database.
10. Keep unique IDs.
11. A void non-standards encodings or supplementary private use area -- use UTF-8.
