Recently, user-created contents (UCC) have gained great popularity both in Korea and U.S. The UCCs, by virtue of visual aspects as well as text and images, are expected to be influential media especially among young generations. Given the potential implications of UCC, this study attempts to (a) identify a hierarchy of predictors that lead to production and consumption of UCC, and (b) compare Korea and U.S. in terms of UCC use and factors related to it. The data supported the proposed structural model in which UCC use is explained by relational flows from nationality, user characteristics, communication activities, to perceived attributes of innovation. However, it was found that while communication activities had direct influences on UCC use, none of the perceived attributes of innovation showed significant relationship with UCC use, Although subjects from two nations did not differ in the frequency of UCC use, they showed clear departure in factors leading to UCC use.
