This present study attempts to investigate the narrative features of Son So Hee s novel, 〈Narn Pung〉. Son So Hee is a female writer who is enthusiastic for writing a novel between late in 1940's and 1980's. She has a romantic passion while having a continental temper and critical social consciousness beyond feminine weakness. 〈Nam Pung〉 which is a representative novel of her middle age lacks in critical spirit and accusation against society due to the period under the Japanese imperialism.
Along with the Japanese imperialism, another reason is that 〈Nam Pung〉 is emphasized on love between man hero and woman heroine. Putting emphasis on their love developed by their repetition of meeting and separation, a historical consciousness and critical consciousness tend to be naturally overlooked.
〈Nam Pung〉 is characterized as a modern romance as 19 century's novel. In the light of the structure of this novel. there are two characters. One is an archetypal haracter that identifies appearance with beauty. The other is a typical romantic character ending with happiness through lots of difficulties. In addition, compared to woman heroine, people measures a man hero's power and competence by his wealth and appearance. With this respect, 〈Nam Pung〉 is not 20 century's novel but 19 century's romantic novel.
