Pung-su folk tales is the story with the motif of pung-su. This study investigates the consciousness of traditional group shown in the literature through the medium of theory of pung-su not its ideological side. So it classifies the pung-su folk tales of Honam by types, examines the aspects of development, compares it to the data distribution of pung-su folk tales in the whole country and researches the community sense, sense of value and historical sense of Honam people through characteristics of distribution extracted in this study.
The contents of this study are summarized as follows;
First, traditional group recognizes geomancer in the dimension of 'geomancer's technique and religious truth' They recognize that acquiring propitious site is possible only when God endows because it is unrealizable in the real world. Therefore it requires geomancer to reach the stage of religious truth beyond the technical dimension.
Second, the acquisition of propitious site will require the supreme cost necessarily. It is represented as practice of charities of final piety. To the contrary, propitious site cannot be obtained with greed, arrogance and evil behaviors and existing one is destructed. Then the people are based on the ethical view pursuing the virtue in the pung-su folk tales.
Third, it pursues anti-fatalistic human will. Pung-su folk tales are fatalistic from such viewpoint that good luck and virtue are obtained through 'propitious site'. However, traditional group has a confidence in the possibility of developing such a fortune and looks for propitious site actively by themselves.
Fourth, it has reality-oriented view. Change in fortune for the better pursued in pung-su folk takes concentrates on real problems such as promoting to higher government position, better life, marriage or getting soon. It means that it shows the group's will to settle the real problems before them through propitious site. Such a reality oriented view is immanent in pung-su folk tales and is embodied as reality-oriented idea for change in fortune of traditional group.
