In this thesis, I have observed the conflicts revolving around the book, Gwanseo Mundap-rok(關西問答錄, collection of dialogue) of Gyeongju(慶州) Oksan Yeoju Lee clan(玉山 驪州李氏) for more than 200 years since the book came out, and its implication in the development of the conflicts. Gwanseo Mundap-rok is a booklet written by Jeon Lee(李全仁, 1516~1568) who had served his father, Eon-Jeok Lee(李彦迪, 1491~1553) exiled to Ganggye, Pyeongan-do. However, Gwanseo Mundap-rok had encountered strong criticism from Sik Cho(曺植, 1501~1572) since prior to the formal publication. As it was called to account for the intention of writing after the publication, the block book stored in Oksan Seowon Academy(玉山書院) was broken by the legitimate son's family group of the same clan. Even though the second edition was published with the assistance of local officials and central authority in Gyeongju, it was strongly opposed to other Confucianists centered around Dosan Seowon Academy(陶山書院), which was the base of Yeongnam(嶺南) Confucianism. Like above, Mundap-rok had engaged in continuous controversies among Yeongnam Confucianists from the moment of being published in the world.
Practically, according to Mundap-rok, it subtly established the academy tree which descends from Yeon-Jeok Lee, Jeon-In Lee to Jun Lee. The collection of Gwanseo dialogue is the yield gained by a strong will of family unification, in the course of the Oksan-pa's, of inferior family line, developing Jeon-In Lee's admiration activities to maintain its prestige. However, Jun Lee brother's letter addressed to Su-Sin Rho, which was contained as an appendix in Gwanseo Mundap-rok had brought about general resistance of Yeongnam noble men having their base at Dosan Seowon Academy since year 1767, because a certain mention of Hwang Lee in the letter caused a serious issue. Do-Hyeon Lee(李道顯) who took the lead in Dosan Seowon Academy criticized the letter in detail in Museo Byeonpa-rok. These conflicts and controversies appear to be the counter-reaction which is caused by Jeon-In Lee's admiration activities and expansion of the implication of Gwanseo Mundap-rok through continuous efforts to establish the prestige of Oksan-pa.(玉山派)
The structure of Gwanseo Mundap-rok aimed not only to cope with external challenge but also to ensure succession of Yeon-Jeok Lee's philosophy and enhancement of family prestige, that was the goal of Oksan-pa. Gwanseo Mundap-rok had made a media which could ensure the social prestige by means of its publication, breakage and republication. Therefore, it became to contain various social implications more than a simple daily record. In conclusion, conflicts and controversies around the Gwanseo Mundap-rok was resulted from various conditions of social and political interests, rather than from its own academic theory.
