This thesis is a comparative study between 〈Somhanseubyu〉 and 〈Seoyugi〉. I compared 〈Samhanseubyu〉 and 〈Seoyugi〉 in order to understand the two novels.
〈Samhanseubyu〉 and 〈Seoyugi〉 have many things in common. Frist is that these this two novels are blends of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. These exist equally and harmoniously. One is not kept in subjection to the other. These novels even encapsulate a demon equally. Second, these novels deny the popular ideas of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. And these novels criticize these three ideologies. Also, these novels express a demon in the affirmative. This idea is contrary to common thinking. These novels are awakened to equal the significance of all kinds of things. Third, these novels have a high opinion of natural feelings of humans. Because of that, these novels often come show problems about love between sexes. Forth, a wide variety of materials appear in these novels. And they devoted over half of the whole novel to an animated conversation. Besides these novels are many points of similarity in sundry things. Strategy, characters... etc.
On the other side, 〈Smhanseubyu〉 and 〈Seoyugi〉 have many distinctive things. 〈Sumhanseubyu〉 is a word by itself, but 〈Seoyugi〉 is an oral tradition. Because of that, the latter expressed a happy-go-lucky altitude. And the novel is a humorous book. But the former projects the writer's thinking. He got no opportunity to voice his best wishes and ability. This novel shows his deprived life.
