The purpose of this essay is to analyze Kim In-Sec’s Manchuria Missiology, which was manifested in a Christian magazine, Faith Life(信仰生活) during the 1930s, elucidating contemporary social circumstances and the particular religiosity of the Korean Christianity. Korea in the 1930s, an agricultural nation, severely suffered from predatory Japanese imperialism policy, so that the majority of Korean people were at the point of starvation, Especially, farmers ravaged by famine were compelled to emigrate to cities or foreign countries such as China and Japan. On the other hand, the Korean Christianity was divided into two major groups: one is the Su-yang Friend Party(修養同友會) centering around the northwest province, the other, the Comrade Party(同志會) of the Ki-Cheong Line, centering around Seoul, Kyeong-gi and Chung-cheong, conducted by Rhe, Seung-Man. Initiative conflict between these two groups conspicuously appeared. Under these circumstances, Kim In-Seo maintained his Manchuria mission strategy.
The constructive section of the paper is as follows: first, Kim In-Seo intended to console 1. 5 million Korean diasporas living in Manchuria. Second, his Missiology targeted the unification of the two Korean Christian circles that conflicted each other. Third, he opposed a general concept that Manchuria had significant meaning only as a base camp for the independence of Korea. Lastly, the significance of the Manchuria Missiology of Kim In-Sea lies in its universality of mission. Objects of the Christian mission could not be confined to Koreans in Manchuria; Manchurians and Japanese also are those who need to be saved. Consequently, a new broad perspective arose: no one can be excluded from the Christian mission. To sum up, domestically, Kim In-Seo attempted to elucidate the purity of Christian churches in the middle of independence-oriented tendency. Furthermore, he sought to proliferate Christian faith to the world.
