This article scrutinizes the works of Namcheon Kim in the late Japanese Imperialism mainly focusing on their relationships with ‘Manchuria.’ Japanese Imperialism tries to reinforce its dominant power by suggesting Manchuria as an ideological supplement. Considering the importance of Manchuria with regard to the dominant ideology of Japanese Imperialism, the figure of Manchuria in the literary works is an essential key for evaluation. In the works of Namcheon Kim, Manchuria is shown as a ‘void.’ He presents colonied Korea as a space of corrupted conscious and distorted personality. In this sense, Manchuria could be a new fantasy irrelevant to national degradation. However, he resists against the Imperialist dominant ideology by denying describing Manchuria as a concrete and positive space. Manchuria as a void signifier means cease of judgement, which signifies his cognitive distance from the dominant ideology. For void Manchuria means hollowness of dominant ideology that leads to the revelation of falsehood in the logic of New Order of East Asia. What remains as a limit in his works is that he cannot link colonial capitalism to imperialism by its natural consequence.
