Lee Jang-Hee is noted for his imagism poems. His poems are based on a heartbreak and a sadness. This is similar to other poets' poems of that age. But other poets expressed their sadness, tears, heartbreak exaggeratingly. Lee Jang-Hee was temperate in expressing his feelings and tried to describe the thing in itself. Owing to that feature, Lee Jang-Hee's poems are evaluated as the initiative of modernism poems in 1930s.
'The Scenery of One Summer Day' is a poem that describe the things and affairs. The poet observed the things accurately and described it as if it is the real. But 'Spring is a cat' is consisted a observation and a poet's thought. The cat of this poem isn't a real cat but a thinking toward a cat. Lee Jang-Hee connected the characteristic of a cat with a special feature of spring. Image is not only copying the objects but also interpreting them.
And Lee Jang-Hee made the complex image. It was consisted different senses. For example, the visual and a sense of touch, the sense of smell. He objectified his sentimental feeling by making images. As a result, he could overcome sentimentalism and use poetic words economically.
Lee Jang-Hee's poems are based on the thought that poetry is not natural overflow but well-made thing. This thought is a very important turning point in Korean poetic history.
