This study attempts to show the limit between the possibility and the impossibility of interpreting poems. That is to say, every poem which is specified by the individual(poetic) language of a poet cannot be interpreted without any trouble. Especially, the poems that use non-verbal language are difficult to understand and to interpret.
Lee Sang's Problem of the Visage of the Patient and Rimbaud's Voyelles that we analyze in this article belong to this case. In these two poems, we cannot find exaggerations, meanings, nor significance. This is the reason why these two poems are written not for the reader's common understanding(“Hermeneutics”, that explains “objective” or “universal” interpretation), but for the author's poetic theory.
Nevertheless, we do not leave these two poems to take each's own territory, non-sense, for the readers. For that reason, we try to interpret them anew by the “sign” which products the meanings depending on the relation of the signs ontologically that creates the meanings among the words and the group of words.
Despite its possibility to interpret the poem by sign, we do not arrive at a satisfying conclusion. The expression of the idea and the thought of the poet must mutually assist the common language; otherwise, the poem is disoriented to read and understand. That is to say, what the poet pays attention to in his poem cannot be achieved. Thus, it is proper that a poet should create his own language incomparable to its original.
