The purpose of this thesis is to research the strategies for writing which induce constructive thinking from writing-subjects. Effective composition education can be practiced by communication with writers’ discourse community. This program is aimed at theme of ‘self-discovery’. This program of problem-solving strategies for writing can be applied to real university composition classes.
The first stage of writing strategies for ‘self-discovery’ is ‘self-portrait and an inside view’. This program is based on self-portraits of painters, Baek, Min-Seok’s novel,「An errand boy of manor」and Eun, Hee-Kyung’s novel,「A poor wife」. Writing-subjects in discourse community developed dialogue and collaborative writing based on this program. Each of discourse partners writes one paragraph with the same theme or the same event in the reference with Baek, Min-Seok’s novel,「An errand boy of manor」.
The second stage of writing strategies for ‘self-discovery’ is to write a diary. The instructor can ask “If you were another person, what would you do?” to writing-subjects.
And the third stage of writing strategies for ‘self-discovery’ is development program of writing based on Seong, Seok-Jae’s novel, 「Fascination」and Lee, Pyeong-Jae’s short story, 「Anastasia, in front of the mirror」. Writing-subjects in discourse community discuss dissociation of the subject, and then write ‘a character diary’.
Through these stages of solution strategy, writing-subjects can communicate with another person in discourse community and for oneself as well. This paper will provide opportunities of different approach for composition education in university.
