This paper has an intention of looking for a crevice point between an anti-Japan discourse brought to the surface and a historic unconsciousness, by tracking a process, in which the citizen forming education experience of Park, Kyung-ni in the end of the Japanese colonial rule is reformed narratively. The author intensively reproduces the experience of Jinju girl’s high school in the end of the Japanese colonial rule(1940~1945) centering around a character called Lee, Sang Ui, in Section 5 of 『Toji』. Also, similar motives appear in the novelette of 「Period of fantasy」 and 「Old story」, and these two works form two axises of the anti-Japan theory and susceptible remembrance in the reproduction of Girl’s High School that appeared in 『Toji』.
In the narrative of Jinju Girl’s High School of 『Toji』, as the accusation of the citizen forming education in the end of the Japanese colonial rule, thedescriptions of Japanese teachers, bias of subjects, and war mobilization are vividly reproduced. However, the author does not lead this part into the narrative of the resistance against the Japanese imperialism and the people’s confrontation, and instead she describes it with sensitivity from the daily ‘life’ aspect under the Japanese colonial rule, so that on the contrary she weakens the color of anti-Japanese discourse. Also the narrative related to Jinju Girl’s High School makes the overall work narrative unstable in that after straightforward and enlightening anti-Japan discourses are inserted too much lengthily, the story develops into the trifle daily lives of girl students, and in that since the author created too many characters, the author makes the completion of the work degraded, with making the too many created characters divorce from the whole narrative.
Here, the crevice between special emotions recalled by the memory of the childhood and painful memories of colonization experiences is found. This suggests that the history of the colonial rule is not merely a past fact but a scar progressed even today with the different form and method.
