Han, Seung-Won's Work「The Ruins of a Community」is the story that the characters in the story construct identity themselves and accumulate their memory through being in contact with the Sea. The characters is seized with destructive violence, it is the social and historical violence. The characters receive the social and historical violence by the memory and the logic in the Sea(the Nature) and a myth. And then they are endurable, and then overcome it. It is important that they are not conquer but a part of the Nature. The characters in the story are the natural person.
If we name the modernistic control of the Nature as separating hostilely from the Nature, the "I" bonded with the Nature is necessary in the days of the ecological crises. So the ecological movement needs the psychological attitude. Because the thanatos and the nature-oriented are belonged to the psychological dimension. For the success on the ecological movement, the destructive energy is subordinated to constructive Eros.
So「The Ruins of a Community」shows 'sense of place' that nature-oriented characters have, and promotes the Eros from the Sea. In that meaning, Han's work include ethical views of Psychoanalytical Ecology. Their Eros unificate Eros ruined which restrain by modern civilization, and calm down destructive energy. If the answer about ecological crises contact with the emotion, the intelligence, the desire. Han's work opens possibility of eco-criticism by showing the life and the desire of the characters.
