In this dissertation the concept of “fiction” in essays was studied.
‘The theory of permission’ advocates that fiction is the method by which not only the limitation of contents and expression in essay can be overcome, but essay can be transformed profoundly.
‘The non－permission theory insists that fiction must not be used in order to preserve essay’s own essential characteristics.
In conclusion, it can not be allowed to decorate story－telling itself with fiction. But, for the literary effect, partial addition of fiction to essay is inevitable. At this point the argumentation on the adoption of the terminology ‘imagination’ instead of “fiction” need to be started.
