『Samguk Sagi』 was a legitimate history book published by Busik Kim in obedience to a royal command on 1146. Busik Kim made this book by compiling the previous history on the Three Kingdom and the concerned facts recorded in the chinese histories. He thought that all the recorded facts in the legitimate history had historical truth irrespective of his interpretation. This negative perception to the attitude of historian was different from those of scholars in Chosun Dynasty. The scholars of Chosun thought "It is only proper that the historian should separate historical truth from recorded facts." So they blamed Busik Kim for not doing that.
In fact, we can hardly find any historical view in 『Samguk Sagi』. The historical view cannot be formed on condition that the recorded facts are regarded to the historical facts. Busik Kim compiled 『Samguk Sagi』 in order to prepare the practical standards under the pressure of political necessity. In the result of that, this book had a character of the report of leading cases.
A history written by the necessary of justifying the present political situation would be easily subordinate to the power and the value of strong nation.
We can call him a historian when he reorganizes the facts as one systematic formulation under his historical view.
We cannot repeat the failure of Busik Kim. A historian should not believe the recorded facts as the historical truth itself. And a historian should not regard the fact unsuitable to the present standards to valueless one. A historian should have a sense of independence, and draw out the. historical truths from recorded facts objectively. To a historian, it is necessary to isolate himself from the present political demands. There were no time and place usually put up the history as a political slogan like Korean present society.
