There were around 13,000 old tombs in Jiban(集安) of Gillim Province(吉林省), the second capital of Goguryeo(高句麗). Out of them, some 10 tombs have been regarded as royal tombs in view of their scale, but haven't been correctly established their identity.
However, we could presume that the tomb of King Gwangaeto was located near a royal tombstone which must be the tombstone of King Gwangaeto. In regard to the location of the tomb of Gwangaeto, some scholars have maintained that it was the tomb of King Tae where was 360m from that tombstone southwest. Other scholars have maintained that it was General Tomb(將軍塚) where was 2km from the tombstone northeast. The grounds of these opinions include distance and direction between that tombstone and two royal tombs, election year of them which estimated through tails discovered around old tombs, and contents of epigraphs, which inscribed in bricks excavated around it, such as ‘King Tae(太王)'. As it was known, the academic world in Korea have more supported the tomb of King Tae near the tombstone than General Tomb.
This study examined the bronze bell which engraved a epigraph(‘辛卯年 好大王 巫造鈴 九十六’) discovered in 2003. As a result, it proved that making year of the bell was from May to December, ‘the 28th year of the sexagenary cycle'(the year 391) and ‘King Tae' engraved in the bell was King Gogukyang(故國壤王), a father of King Gwangaeto. This study results suggest that the identity of King Tae's tomb was not King Gwangaeto but King Gogukyang, unlike the existing opinion. If the tomb of King Tae is King Gogukyang's, the location of the tomb of King Gwangaeto will come into question. I will study this subject later.
