How did the Nubi consolidate themselves during Amin’s regime (1971- 1979)? Since their settlement in Uganda in the 1890s, the Nubi were commonly identified as Sudanese mercenaries or Sudanese foreigners and not Uganda’s indigenes. However, during Amin’s regime, the Nubi became a powerful ethnic group due to their ethnic inclination to Amin. Anchoring on constructivism ethnic theory and relying on primary sources for instance oral narratives, augmented with archival written information from newspapers, reports, and minutes, this paper argues that the Nubi ably consolidated themselves as a powerful ethnic group in Uganda during Amin’s regime which saw some of them join the Uganda Army and other Security Agencies like SRB, while others became public servants and powerful entrepreneurs.
