Purpose: This study aimed to investigate trends in academic Korean speaking education for learners using topic modeling and to explore future research directions based on the findings. Methods: In order to accomplish this research purpose We selected 59 academic journal articles and conducted topic modeling and language network analysis. Results: Data analysis showed that the Korean Speaking Proficiency Test introduced in 2021 has increased research on academic Korean speaking. Language network analysis revealed frequent terms like ‘presentation,’ ‘discussion,’ ‘lesson,’ and ‘task.’ Topic modeling highlighted keywords such as ‘discussion,’ ‘steps,’ ‘strategy,’ ‘persuasion,’ and ‘speaking assessment.’ These findings indicate rich information on key topics like ‘discussion,’ ‘stages,’ ‘strategy,’ ‘persuasion,’ and ‘speaking assessment.’ Conclusion: This study holds significance in examining trends in academic Korean speaking education and proposing future directions for academic speaking by analyzing the research subject using NetMiner’s topic modeling technique. By excluding subjectivity and utilizing objective data, the study contributes to providing instructional implications for the classroom and suggestions for further study.
