This research aims to analyze the Bernd and Hilla Becher''s Typology Photography corresponding to Wittgenstein''s ‘Picture Theory’ as a way to minimize ambiguity in interpretation in artworks. There are not many cases to study photography with ''Picture Theory'' in art history. The research method is examined by Wittgenstein''s theory, and works of art corresponding thereto are found and analyzed. In a work of art, meaning can be interpreted differently depending on the viewer. This problem is a matter of sign, and artworks and languages are signs. Wittgenstein thought that the problem with existing philosophy came from language, and argued that this problem could be solved by setting the limits of language. This is structurally the same as the problem of artwork. The problem with artwork is that the meaning of the work is arbitrary, so there is ambiguity in transmission. Just as Wittgenstein solved the problem with philosophy by placing limits on language, limiting the form of artwork can minimize the ambiguity of semantic communication in works of art. According to his Picture Theory, the world and language are in correspondence, and picture also corresponds to the world. In order for a picture to clearly simulate the world, it must consist of elements that can be expressed in the picture. Among the many fields of art, photography is the best medium to simulate the world Wittgenstein is talking about. Unlike other media, photography is relatively less subjective and has an advantage in describing reality because it replicates the world with machines. Like Typology Photography, it describes the world realistically, records the type of objects as they are, and responds to the world when no different meaning is given. In particular, the Bernd and Hilla Becher''s Typology Photography sets various shooting criteria to realistically record the shape of the object without distorting reality, and the finished image corresponds to Wittgenstein''s Picture Theory as a result.
