This paper aims to shed light on the ideological and historical significance of “The Twelve Diagrams of Family's Norms(家範十二圖)” during the formation and development of the Daesan School(大山學派). During the 18th and 19th centuries, when the central government was dominated by the Noron faction(老論), the Daesan School, unable to realize their political ideals, sought to promote and develop Dohak(道學) outside of the government. The Daesan School not only sought to directly connect Daesan Studies to Toegye Studies but also named it ‘Hohak(湖學)’. The group of Daesan’s disciples, known as Hohak, was called ‘Homun(湖門)’. This genealogy leads to Seosan Kim Heung-rak and influences Confucian scholars who campaigned for independence during the Japanese colonial era. The individuals mentioned in this paper were key figures among the Daesan School, playing an important role as senior scholars, even though they were not named in the larger framework of Dotong(道統). Soam Lee Byeong-won was the third grandchild of Daesan Lee Sang-jeong. After his grandfather, Sosan Lee Gwang-jeong, and his father, Ganam Lee Wan, passed away while organizing Daesan’s collection of writings, he worked to publish the “Daesan Collection(大山集)” with Sosan's son, Myeonam Yi-woo. Daesan had organized Family's Norms, which he could not finish, leaving only the title and compilation during his lifetime. “Family's Norms(家範)” is a collection of Daesan’s teachings on family management and enlightening descendants. “The Twelve Diagrams of Family's Norms,” a follow-up work, is a systematic version of Daesan's Neo-Confucianism. The reason why we explore the ideological and historical significance of “The Twelve Diagrams of Family's Norms” in this paper is that it highlights the aspect of Daesan's studies being inherited as family learning and the flow of development as a school simultaneously. Through Daeya Ryu Geon-hyu and Shinam Lee Byung-ha, who exchanged letters with Soam, the author of “The Twelve Diagrams of Family's Norms”, we can see Soam's efforts to inherit family learning within the Hansan Lee Clan. The fact that the writings and paintings of Myeon-am Yi Woo, Gwang-lwei Yi Ya-soon, and Dun-gye Kim Sun, who were directly taught by Daesan, were published in “The Twelve Diagrams of Family's Norms” shows that it is not only an achievement of Soam individually but also a process of forming a collective intelligence called Daesan School.
