Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of contextual versus morphological inference intervention on the acquisition of derivative in 2<SUP>nd</SUP> and 3<SUP>rd</SUP> graders. Methods : Contextual inference intervention program, morphological inference intervention program, and pre/post tests developed by the researcher, were conducted on 35 children in 2<SUP>nd</SUP> and 3<SUP>rd</SUP> grades of an elementary school. Results : Both programs showed significant effects on the acquisition of derivatives, but the difference in the effects between those two programs was not significant. Conclusions : Since both programs have similar significant effects on acquisition of derivatives, it is necessary to properly combine two intervention programs at various educational settings of vocabulary learning. In addition, furthur studies are needed to investigate appropriate programs on children with language and reading disorders.
