This study examined the implication of Yi(意) and Sincere intention(誠意) in the Ethics of Zhuzi(朱子) and clarified the problem of the power of moral practice. Some scholars argued that the philosophy of Zhuzi cannot clearly explain this power because it is a theory that emphasizes intellectual capacity in the human mind(心). In this regard, this study focused on the concept of Yi(意), as the force of the moral practice in Zhuzi"s theory. For Zhuzi, Yi is the ability of the mind to understand the situation and move toward the goal. In addition, the theory of sincere intention(誠意) can be understood as cultivation that unifies the function of Yi with Li(理) as a morality. By explaining the power of moral practice through the concept of Yi(意), which has not been noticed so far, it is possible to rediscover the organization of Zhuzi’s moral philosophy and verify its ethical meaning.
