This study aims to investigate the effect of an English newspaper making activity on elementaryschool students' reading-writing abilities and English learning motivation. For this purpose,sixteen students in 5th and 6th grade engaged in the club activity for 16 weeks. The students readEnglish newspaper articles and wrote their own articles on eight topics in pairs. The results ofthe study were as follows. First, the club activity of making an English newspaper had a positiveeffect on improving students’ reading-writing abilities. Low level students showed a significantimprovement in reading ability, and low and mid level students showed meaningful gains inwriting ability. Qualitative analysis of the students’ articles revealed that students’ lexicalproficiency and grammatical ability were also improved. Second, it was discovered that theEnglish newspaper making activity enhanced elementary school students’ English learningmotivation in all English proficiency levels. Third, in the affective domains, the students showedincreased interest and self-confidence in learning English, and lowered language learninganxiety after 16 weeks of club activity. Based on these results, suggestions for further studies areProvided.
