One-person households have increased in number in recent years. This trend is having an influence on South Korea's property building designs and plans. More have communal facilities on the one hand, while the type of residences have developed more variety to cater to the different needs of single, newly wed, and traditional family occupants. This study focuses on the internal spaces of shared housing with a view to solving one-person household housing needs. After analyzing a variety of housing types, it proposes certain of improvement and the advantages and disadvantages of each. The study looks at the notion of new housing space and the current need for one-person households, with particular analysis of existing domestic examples of both shared and private space. We classified domestic shared housing into the following types, based on owner, purpose and size of property. One person uses one room, or 1-4 people use one room; non-share household types are arranged randomly, to secure privacy. There is a definite communal theme, but designs can vary according to changes in inhabitants' demands. Arrangements of share space are based on similar life styles, whilst private space is respected as much as possible. Accorded to in the proper fashion, such an arrangement will encourage community sentiment. Efficient design features, such as non-fixed sharing of walls and private space, easily movable furniture, individual refrigerators, a variety of private rooms, and efficient arrangement of fractal furniture will help people live in a co-relational atmosphere.
