This article raised some questions about Hyun Jin-Gun's novel, <A Good Day(운수 조흔 날)>. There are many arguments about the origin of Seolleongtang, two of which are representative. Both arguments have problems, although they are persuasive. The writings in <The another universe(별건곤)> of the 1920s say that Seolleongtang is a new and coarse food. In the Joseon Dynasty, the beef ban that almost never allowed cattle to eat was enforced during the wartime period. Eating cattle was allowed only to some people, including the king. For most people, beef was inedible. In the recipes of colonial period, there is another soup made from beef, but there is no Seolleongtang. It is said that when you put beef and soup, you should not put several pieces of meat. The price of Seolleongtang was cheap because it used the bones, which were about 5% more than other parts. On <A Good Day>, Mr. Kim had to pay 40% of the three won he made to the company. Mr. Kim, who hadn't picked up a guest for ten days, could continue to have a day after that. Kim's subordination to rickshaws was to keep dragging the rickshaws forced by capital. Seolleongtang was popular at that time because it was boiled with beef and cheap. In the process of eating beef, the main variable was the price, and the price was located in the center of his wife's desire to eat Seolleongtang.
