This study empirically verified how the job characteristics experienced by middle managers of social welfare organizations affect organizational turnover intention and occupational turnover intention and whether individual growth need strength (GNS) moderate this relationship. For the analysis, this study applies the seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) model to enable a more efficient parameter estimation by reflecting the high correlation between the dependent variables and the survey data of 358 middle managers of social welfare organizations in South Korea. This study has four main results. First, in the case of middle managers of social welfare organizations, the organizational turnover intention was higher than the occupational turnover intention. Second, the job driving the individual"s intrinsic motivation negatively influenced both the organizational turnover intention and the occupational turnover intention of middle managers. Third, the moderating effect of the GNS was not significant for organizational turnover intention but only for the occupational turnover intention. Fourth, the moderating effect of the GNS was contrary to the proposition of the job characteristics model. This study is meaningful because it expands and deepens the understanding of the turnover intentions of middle managers in social welfare organizations, which has not been known so far.
