Sulforaphane (SFN), an isothiocyanate present in cruciferous vegetables, has been found to induce a hormetic proliferation of HCT116 cells at low doses. Interestingly, the SFN-induced hormetic proliferation was partially inhibited by BST, an Nrf2 inhibitor. Thus, we hypothesized that Nrf2 downstream mediators would control SFN-induced hormetic proliferation. mRNA-Seq revealed a set of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) involved in GSH metabolism as compared between WT and Nrf2 KO HCT116 cells treated with or without SFN.
