This study analyzes the meaning and function of beki?none from the examples in the newspaper. First, this study reveals the proposition has not been realized in the real world, beki represents “ideal”, “necessary”, “deontic”, “possible”, and “advice”. But the proposition has been realized, beki contrasts the sentences before and after, and is used for criticizing the real world. Second, this paper also explains that beki used as a collocation has meaning and function to emphasize degree and metaphor. Third, this paper analyzes the characteristics of nouns of beki?none. The result shows that the examples examined in this study were nouns related to ‘unspecified things’, ‘ideal future’, ‘morality’, and ‘responsibility’. This study points out that the predicate of the proposition of beki is mainly used by verb, but cannot be used by adjective. From the above analysis, this study claims that the basic meaning of beki?none is “deontic judgement”. But, beki?none also has different semantic features such as collocations compared with beki ?non?none.
