Some philosophers attempt to argue that proper names do not belong to any natural language, based on the interesting observations as follows. (1) Knowing proper names is not required for one to be a competent speaker of a natural language (2) They are not translatable. (3) They are essentially local. Each observation enables us to construct an argument purporting to show that proper names are not words of any natural language. However, I argue that each argument fails. All the observations are heavily biased or not well-supported. None of (1), (2) and (3) entail that proper names are not natural language expressions.
