The purpose of this study was to explore the environment of art education, contents of teaching and learning, methods of teaching and learning, role of teachers in future society to help understand the direction of art education in future society. For this purpose, this study analyzed the related literature and conducted in - depth interviews for seven months from April, 2017 to the end of December. The conclusion is as follows. First, in the future society, the school art education environment will be transformed into a learning environment capable of providing a specialized art education program that can save individual aptitudes of students, and self - leading individual art activities using technology. Second, the content of teaching and learning in art education will be emphasized through community education, strengthening civic awareness education, humanity and emotional education through humanism education. Third, the main teaching and learning methods of future art education will focus on creative education using diverse types of teaching methods such as digital based instruction, and integrating flipped learning and project instruction for collaborative problem solving.
