This paper deals with two topics. One is on the syntactic status and functions of pre-final morphemes, and the other is on deciphering old Korean words written in Chinese characters including the syntactic analysis of sentences in old Korean literature. According to X-bar theory, pre- final morphemes in Korean are generated by being inserted at seven final nodes between VP and C. The morphemes ‘-deo-’ and ‘-neu-’ represent the ‘epistemic tense’ category. While ‘-deo-’ represents past epistemic tense, ‘-neu-’ indicates present tense. Additionally, ‘-neu-’ has an allomorph ‘ 0 ’.
There are many data in Samkooksaki and Samkookyoosa, which need closer textual criticism. In this paper, I explain that 酒多 and 角干 should be deciphered as ‘p’ulkhn’, and 新羅 and 國 should mean the capital city. I point out that there are many incorrect translations in translating ‘Daesan Ohman Jinshin’ and ‘Myeongju Odaesan Bosnae Taeja Jeongi’ in Samkookyoosa. Further, I clarify that the father of Queen Hyemyeong (the wife of the 34th King Hyoso) was not ‘Ichan Soonwon’ but ‘Ichan Jinjong’ in Samkooksaki. Because ‘Jinjong’ was considered as a son of Soonwon, Queen Hyemyeong was not a daughter of Soonwon but his grand daughter.
