The aim of this article is to explore the topology of violence in the state and politics, and to find ways to reduce it. Despite the considerable status of violence in politics, political science and real politics have not dealt with the issue of violence deeply or have treated it as evil to be rooted out. However, violence occupies a fundamental position in human life and is indispensable in political life. Even if we acknowledge the essentiality of violence in human life, it is not appropriate to consider the violence as unavoidable. Nor can we deny the possibility of violence against greater violence. If this is the case, how should we deal with violence? This article, which contemplates the relationship between politics and violence, does not classify violence as a distinct category of good and evil. It is regarded as a contradiction and logical aporia. How can we reduce the total amount of violence without exhausting its potential? While acknowledging that everyday life is based on violence, concrete action is required to purify the culture of violence and violence which is constantly reproduced by modern capitalist material civilization. One alternative we can make for political change is to explore the possibility of nonviolence in a world where violence is normalized. As a way to reduce the total amount of violence, the conclusion suggests the recognition of diversity and the solidarity of the many “Bartleby.”
