This study analyzed the units of classical poetry in the high school literature textbooks of the 2015 revised curriculum. In particular, by analyzing the learning activities and construction of units of classical poetry in the overall context of the curriculum, we examined whether the education of classical poetry is aimed at the reader"s aesthetic experience.
In literary textbooks, units of classical poetry are mainly dealt with in the area of literary history. Learning activities are "Knowledge/Text/Author-centered" rather than being "Reader-centered". This means that "author and text/efferent understanding/objectivity of knowledge" are recognized as more importantly than "reader/aesthetic experience/subjectiveness of appreciation’ in the education of classical poetry.
As a result of analyzing the learning activities constructed from a reader-centered perspective, the following areas of improvement were identified as follows. First, there is a need for detailed learning guides that can enrich the reader"s experience of the text. Second, rather than text and author-centered learning materials, actual learner"s appreciation should be provided. Third, the mediation of the reader"s experience and the text should be constructed to provide the reader with an aesthetic experience.
