Jinpumbyeo is a new japonica rice cultivar developed from a cross between lodging tolerant semi-dwarf plant type,RDA made in 1987/'8 winter season. This cultivar has about 112 days growth duration from seeding to heading in central lowlandand mid-mountainous areas. It is about 82 cm in culm length and tolerance to lodging. It has also relatively erect pubescent leafblade and slightly tough culm with good canopy architecture. Jinpumbyeo has slightly less a few number of tillers per hill andmany spikelets per panicle compared with those of Hwaseongbyeo. It shows less sensitivity to premature heading of lately trans-mparedwith Hwaseongbyeo. This cultivar shows slow leaf senescence and considerable tolerance to viviparous germination during theripening stage. It shows moderate resistance to leaf blast, but suceptible to bacterial blight, stripe virus, and insect pests. Milled riceof Jinpumbyeo is translucent, relatively clear non-glutinous endosperm and medium short grain. It shows lower amylose contentmilled rice yield performance of this cultivar is about 5.52 MT/ha by ordinary culture in local adaptability test for three years. Thiscultivar may be highly adaptable to the central lowland and midle-Southern mountainous areas of Korea.
