“Seogjeongbyeo” is a new Japonica rice cultivar developed from a cross between a high quality, semi dwarf, adaptable to reclaimed saline area rice variety, Namyang 7, and a highly resistant breeding line to bacterial blight, SR11340-30-4-1-3-2 (Chukoku 69/Sangpungbyeo), by rice breeding team of National Crop Experiment Station, R.D.A. in 2001. It was advanced generations by pedigree method during 1989~1996 and tested the performance of yield trials and local adaptability test from 1997 to 2001. This cultivar has about 126 days of growth duration from transplanting to harvesting in central plain area, mid-western and east-southern coastal area in Korea. The number of panicles/hill of Seogjeongbyeo are slightly more than that of Hwaseongbyeo. It's milled rice is translucent, relatively clear, non-glutinous and short grain. This cultivar has low amylose content(18.7%), low gelatinization temperature and good palatability of cooked rice similar to Hwaseongbyeo. Seogjeongbyeo shows slow leaf senescence and susceptible to viviparous germination. It is resistant to bacterial blight(K1, K2, K3), but susceptible to blast, virus disease and insect pests. Yield performance of the cultivar is about 5.56MT/ha in milled rice in local adaptability test field for three years. Seogjeongbyeo is adaptable to central plain area, mid-western and east-southern coastal area in Korea.
