Sampyeongbyeo is a new japonica rice cultivar developed from a cross betwen a lodging-tolerant, semi-dwarf andpungbyeo) by the rice breeding team of National Crop Experiment Station, R.D.A., in 201. This cultivar has about 112 days ofgrowth duration from seeding to heading in central plain area of Korea. It has a god semi-erect plant type and resistant to lodgingwith strong culm. The number of panicle/hill of Sampyeongbyeo is slightly more than that of Hwaseongbyeo. The milled rice oftiontemperature and good palatability of cooked rice similar to Hwaseongbyeo. This rice variety shows slow leaf senescence and con-siderable tolerance to viviparous germination during the ripening stage. Sampyeongbyeo is resistant to bacterial blight (K1, K2,K3 , but susceptible to dwarf and black streaked dwarf virus diseasesand insect pests. The yield performance of this rice cultivar is about 5.62 ton/ha in milled rice at local adaptability test for threeyears (198~20). Sampyeongbyeo is adaptable to west-southern coastal, central plain and southern inland areas of Korea.
