CVB3 is a virulent human pathogen that inducesmyocarditis and ultimately dilated cardiomyopathy. Althoughseveral apoptotic factors are involved in the cell deathinduced by CVB3, the upstream signal transduction factors ofCVB3-induced apoptosis are stil unclear. We explored andcharacterized the role of PKC δ in CVB3-infected cels. PKCδ was cleaved after CVB3 infection and was activated at 6 hpostinfection. PKC δvia mitochondria after CVB3 infection, and overexpresion ofwild-type PKC δ reduced the apoptotic cell death causedby CVB3. These results indicate that PKC δ has an anti-apoptotic role in CVB3 infection.
