This paper investigates the use of metaphors in economic discourses within the framework of the conceptual metaphor theory and explores how expressions are metaphorically used in various economic contexts in the field of economy. Following Lakoff and Johnson(1980), metaphor is taken to be understanding and experiencing one conceptual domain experience in terms of another domain of experience. Economy has a close relationship with human beings and human society. It is an important aspect of people’s life, so that in everyday speech people speak of economy and related topics. Many metaphorical expressions about economic discourses are classified into several categories; i.e., living organism, machine, competition, container, and journey. Based on a cognitive analysis of conceptual metaphors, in this paper we argue that abstract economic concepts and complex economic phenomena are understood and conceptualized in terms of plants
