This study was carried out to examine whether the conceptual level and the organization were appropriate for the units related with continuity of life in science textbook of 9th grade. For this study, the biological concepts in the units, ‘Reproduction and Development’ and ‘Heredity’ were extracted from the science textbooks for middle school, and the conceptual levels and the organization of acquired concepts were analyzed. The overall conceptual levels of these units are higher than those of other biology units in science textbook of middle school. Also, the number of unacquainted formal level concepts per lessen and the dependency of concepts between subjects are significantly increased in the units related with the continuity of life, especially the unit of heredity. Although the conceptual levels of these units are relatively high, they are still lower than those of other areas of science, and appear to be appropriate for 9th grade students, based on the cognitive level of student's. The difficulties in learning these units for students may arise from the organization of the units, such as too many unfamiliar concepts of high level per lesson and the high dependency of concepts between subjects.
