By comparing non-literary English STs and its Korean TTs, the present paper aims to show the insertion and shift of conjunctive devices in the Korean translation. The analysis shows that there are no instances where the English conjunctions in the ST are deleted all together in the TT. The data indicates that additive and adversative conjunctions constitute the kinds of conjunctions which are most frequently added in the TTs employed in this study. The insertion of these conjunctions, we believe, is a translational strategy for the translator to express more explicitly the cohesive relations in the TT. Based on such data, this study argues that the attempts to accentuate the relations between events and situations in the TT, which are only implied in an indirect or vague manner in the ST, are intended to facilitate the understanding of the message on the part of the TT readers.
